40 Years in Buildings. One Recurring Problem.

Most people inside mold-affected buildings don't know it. Jerry Parker has spent four decades learning why โ€” and what it generally takes to change that.

The Pattern He Couldn't Stop Seeing

Jerry Parker spent 13 years in HVAC โ€” crawling through systems, diagnosing air flow issues, and watching what happened to indoor environments when moisture wasn't managed. Then came 15 years in the building trades, conducting remodels that ran from three months to two years, putting him inside the same structures long enough to watch problems develop, worsen, and get ignored.

When he moved into IAQ consulting, he started formally documenting what he'd informally witnessed for decades: moisture gets in, mold follows, and the people inside usually have no idea.

Across hundreds of residential and commercial buildings, the most common outcome wasn't that people couldn't fix the problem. It was that they were pointed in the wrong direction first โ€” spending money on remediation before the root cause was identified, then dealing with mold again six months later.

"Most people aren't failing to act on mold. They're acting on the wrong information first."

What Jerry Observed Across Hundreds of Buildings

Three patterns appeared so consistently they couldn't be coincidence.

๐Ÿ’ธ

The Cost Problem

Remediation was performed before the moisture source was identified. When the root cause isn't addressed first, what is generally observed is that mold returns โ€” and the cost repeats.

๐Ÿ“‹

The Information Problem

Homeowners were given conflicting advice from contractors, inspectors, and online sources. Without a clear framework, most didn't know what questions to ask first.

โฑ๏ธ

The Decision Problem

Even with good information, building owners often delayed action โ€” not from neglect, but from uncertainty about who to trust and what step is generally recommended first.

Why Jerry Builds Educational Programs

"I spent 40 years watching what happens when people don't have good information about moisture and mold. I'm retired from the field โ€” but the problems I witnessed aren't gone. Education is what I can do now that reaches more people than I ever could in person."
